I started off watching the "complete series" in English, which consisted of 6 episodes on Prime Video. It, certainly, whet my appetite for more. I found it very interesting, but it seemed to jump too quickly from one scene and crisis to another. So, I gave it a 7, and looked for more. I found that it is a series consisting of 76 episodes! No wonder it seemed "off. The answer, not very well. Was it still entertaining, yes, but not great.
The acting was great. Locations inside The Forbidden City outstanding. But, the story was just not smooth. The 76 episodes version, on the other hand, were wonderful! I only got to see about 47 episodes, but the story was consistently terrific. I got to know and care about the characters. I watched them grow, age, mature, and change as life within the harem of the Emperor grew more and more complicated, as emotion, power, greed, and jealousy shaped their lives.
And I, suddenly, understood those gaps in the "complete series. They had English subtitles that were the work of a group to translate them all into English subtitles.
I check back every few weeks to see if more episodes have been added to those with English subtitles. Z becomes pregnant with a baby, and as soon as the baby is born, she decides to become a nun with hair. She goes to the nunnery with two of her servants.
Some nuns give Z a very hard time at the nunnery, and Z almost dies there. G saves her, then they fall in love. They have the best time together. Unlike the Emperor, G only has Z as his wife, with no concubines. They only love each other. It might be necessary to tell the destinations of the characters introduced in Part 1 in the show except for Z.
Qing, as an ancient dynasty established hundreds of years ago, is a hot topic for TV series in China. I would like to introduce the […]. What Messes with Your Head? Bookmark the permalink. Hi, no I don't, but you can watch the American version which has English subs along with Chinese words. Hi Jaslyn, so sorry I only saw your comment now, somehow I can no longer see if I have comments pending moderation!
Anyway, you can look forward to Ru Yi Zhuan written by the same author, even though I'm not sure how it would turn out as yet. So glad LZH is my first C-drama, but now I can't seem to find anything that's even on par with this series. Except maybe Nirvana in Fire. Have seen this series like two and a half times and I'm still so in love with it.
Yes I know right, even the most hyped up dramas of late do not seem to match ZHZ. Hi i am glad i found your blog. Hi Dan, thanks for your comment! All 6 episodes can be found on Youtube. Just came across your blog out of curiosity and love your review but I just want to say that Legend of Zhen Huan is easily available now on youtube with decent fan subs too.
Sadly, the true meaning and nuances of the script tend to be lost in translation. I found myself crying watching some of these episodes. I just got so sucked in by this story.
The actors and actresses were incredible. Sun Li just broke my heart in some of her scenes. This show just deserves accolades for the story and for the acting. Problem I hate is Ada Choi voice were dubbed. Used to watch her TVB drama and her voice is more feminine.
They should teach her to speak in Mandarin instead of letting her to speak in Cantonese and dub her voice. It's pretty good, but only exciting because of the side characters plotting and scheming for the Empress' position. Ruyi herself barely does anything and the show is more about the love between her and Qianlon g.
Did you know that Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace just came out? In this sequel, the Empress Dowager Zhen Huan is portrayed in the closest ways to the literary, original character of Zhen Huan in the novels where she's a very manipulative, sadistic, unlikable and cunning alpha bitch.
Yup I am watching it now! I can't get over the fact that such an old actress plays her in Ruyi since she's supposedly only twelve years older than Hong Li. ZH just 12 years old than Qianlong Emperor Im watching ZH back and that time i'm realize that ruyi continuity from ZH But, the aunt of Ruyi, is manipulative and some unpleasant?. And, Ruyi Ruyi loved his aunt, anyway. Although, she had to learn the sad politics of the palace. I just wanted to say that I have watched the series, but I am so upset by the way Xia was treated, I feel sick thinking about it.
