May 19, Linda Pierce Mar 11, I was enlightened to learn that crest is a scientist who studies living organisms. I thought a crest was the top of a hill which is actually when a video or image is circulated between internet users quickly -fascinating!

It seems my knowledge has been corrected and i would like to say this site was amusing but then you would have to change your definition for amusement. Wonderopolis Nov 14, Leonardo May 14, Wonderopolis May 14, Liamh Nov 14, I just went to disney for Halloween it was so much fun. Did you dress up in a costume? One thing I learned is what kinetic energy is. The second thing I learned what potential energy is. The last thing I learned is what the biggest roller coaster is.

Wonderopolis Jun 5, Graham Jun 4, I am gonna add tests and make something like this. Reading is Power. Also I am going to Busch Gardens next month.

Wonderopolis Jun 4, I learned that potential energy is sometimes known as positional energy. I also learned that roller coaster are pulled by chains to the top. Another fact I that was interesting was when the roller coaster crests at the top of the hill, gravity takes over. Wonderopolis May 31, We're proud of all your new learning, j. Roller coasters don't use an engine but do use science. Potential energy, kenetic energy and inertia help mainly.

Coasters are stopped by an equal yet opposite force. Gravity helps coasters be very fast as well. These rides we love so much actually do involve school and education science! Wonderopolis May 30, Tornado May 28, Hello Wonderopolis. Yep, Tornado is back! Roller Coasters are fun, but I don't like them as much as thunderstorms and tornadoes. However, we usually go to Kings Island and Cedar Point at least once each summer. Wonderopolis May 28, Tornado May 30, TJ May 28, Dear Wonderopolis, Best wonder ever!

I am a roller coaster enthusiast and we're going to Kings Island and Cedar Point a lot this year since we have Cedar Fair platinum passes.

We also will be going to Kings Dominion on June 23rd. Did you know that roller coasters are the definition of my life? Yep, I like them better than tornado sirens, weather, geography, and video games!

I am only commenting today because of this fantastic wonder! Emma May 28, Natalie Lambert May 28, Our class is wondering how tall is the tallest roller coaster and how fast does the fastest roller coaster go? Billy Bob May 28, Chris C. May 28, This makes me even more excited for summer, because I will go to an amusement park, and ride a roller coaster for the first time!!!!!! Howell's class May 28, Dear Wonderopolis, Hey, guess what we learned today?!?

We learned all about how roller coasters work, stay on track and how fast they go! How come the other rides do not go as fast as the fastest roller coaster ever? We wonder how the roller coasters do not catch on fire from the friction! We predict tomorrow's will be about baseball or football. Sincerely, Third grade friends.

I learned that roller coasters are not what they seem. I've always seen motorized chains, but I thought they were throughout the roller coaster and pulling you at the speeds they wanted. One thing I learned from the video is things don't usually fall when you're upside-down in a loop on a roller coaster.

A second thing I learned from reading is gravity and intertia cause the feeling of a loop. The video and article both taught me about how roller coasters work and ride. Sunil May 28, My first roller coaster was at Disneyland. It was so awesome that I want to go on it again. The name of it was Space Mountain. Andrew May 28, I still wonder who created the first ever roller coaster? How was that person able to think about making a world changing invention? Ajrodriguez26 May 28, I think the main idea of this article is that Gravity plays a big role in our daily lives because roller coasters wouldn't work if no energy was built up.

Candy Nov 13, Nov 15, That would be fun! Thanks for stopping by Wonderopolis and leaving a comment! Graham May 28, I love roller coasters, and I needed this because today are my exams! Wooden or steel coaster: Does it make a difference? Roller coasters can be wooden or steel, and can be looping or nonlooping. You'll notice a big difference in the ride depending on the type of material used. In general, wooden coasters are nonlooping. They're also not as tall and not as fast, and they don't feature very steep hills or as long a track as steel ones do.

Wooden coasters do offer one advantage over steel coasters, assuming you're looking for palm-sweating thrills: they sway a lot more. Tubular steel coasters allow more looping, higher and steeper hills, greater drops and rolls, and faster speeds. How did coasters come to be?
